The Weather Report: SS22
After bidding 2021 adieu (and not a moment too soon), we’re now making our way into 2022, which means a new season of fashion trends to watch out for as the looks from the SS22 season begin to arrive at Browns. To help you dress appropriately for any weather, our report is here to highlight the highs and lows we’ll witness across the fashion biosphere – from cloudy nostalgia to rising temperatures and hemlines. Reporter Dominic Cadogan tells us more…
NORTH: CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF NOSTALGIA
After wall-to-wall sunshine, this season sees grey clouds rolling out over the region, leaving us yearning for the past. Throwback to the playful fashions of the 90s and early 00s – think baggy cargo pants, cropped silhouettes, and underwear as outerwear. Get your fix via KNWLS, Marine Serre, and Tom Ford. This Y2k moment ain’t going anywhere, so strap in and enjoy the ride. If the weather has you feeling really nostalgic, the chilled chic of the 70s might be more your thing: homespun crochet knits, fringe, and patchwork. If you’re more classic, look to Acne Studios, Anderson Bell, ETRO, and Isabel Marant for a bout of bohemia. Or add a glamorous twist via Marques’Almeida and Versace’s offerings.
EAST: CLOUDY WITH BRIGHT SPELLS OF SPRING SUNSHINE
In the West, it’s a gorgeous spring day filled with sunshine and a slight chill in the air. Make the most of it by spending a day at the park, with a spread set out on your cozy blanket from LOEWE or Jil Sander. Crochet textures and creamy neutrals make for the perfect laid back Sunday vibe - look to Totême, KHAITE & co. for indulgent, fuss free luxury in delicious shades of caramel, chocolate and vanilla (ie. the inspiration for the sweet treats you might be snacking on.)
Continue your self-care Sunday with a trip to the market to pick up some fresh flowers, perfect for your seductively shaped Anissa Kermiche vase. Booty-ful! Towards the end of the day, temperatures will start to dip, just in time to settle into a warm bath with Cire Trudon’s The Albasters Ernesto candle wafting relaxing scents of bergamot, clove, and patchouli. Dry your feet off on Cold Picnic’s playful boob-print bath mat, before sparking even more joy with Christopher Kane’s More Joy towel. Splish splash.
SOUTH: MILD THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, ENDING ON A HIGH
High pressure ensures a stable, temperate climate throughout the fashion world, but higher temperatures are set to work their way in as the SS22 season progresses. Make the most of it with looks that push the glam-ometer to 100 – sequins, crystals, jewel tones, opulence, the lot. Dazzle in sparkling numbers by AREA, Paco Rabanne, and Prada, or flounce in ostrich feathers courtesy of Taller Marmo’s delicately trimmed gowns. Say cheers to the weekend with Rosantico’s crystal-covered, cocktail-shaped mini bag, but don’t stop there - make sure you’ve got crystals on your feet too, with a selection of fancy footwear courtesy of Amina Muaddi and Jimmy Choo. With warmer temperatures holding throughout the evening, live your best holiday fantasy à la The White Lotus, in sophisticated glam by Jacquemus, LOEWE, Saint Laurent, and Valentino. With the warm weather working its way well into the night, keep cool and channel your inner Euphoria in slinky evening wear with straps, slits, and cutouts courtesy of Alessandra Rich, LaQuan Smith, Ludovic de Saint Sernin (hotly tipped to be arriving at Browns later this season), and British eveningwear darling Nensi Dojaka.
WEST: SOARING TEMPERATURES (AND HEMLINES)
It’s set to be a scorcher, with an imminent summer heatwave due thanks to the incoming fashion trends. With temperatures rising, it seems that hemlines are also following suit, with mini skirts cropping up all over at Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Prada, and Versace. Miu Miu’s super micro offering – leaving little to the imagination – is set to push thermometers up even higher. If you’re thinking of heading out for a dip to cool off, continue to turn up the heat with barely-there bikinis and sexy swimwear: either a kaleidoscope of colours by Louisa Ballou, delicately ruched pastels by Isa Boulder or straight up sex appeal from Frankies Bikinis, Agent Provocateur and Oserée. If you’re feeling really bold, Gucci’s nude plunging swimsuit gives the illusion of being, well… nude.
