24 Hours With… Paris Georgia
Meet Paris Georgia, or rather Paris Mitchell Temple and Georgia Cherrie, the high school best friends who have grown up to become the design mind’s behind New Zealand’s hottest label, beloved by celebrities and fashion insiders alike. With a knack for cool suiting and stylish separates, we asked the brand’s co-founders to take us for a spin in their inspiring Kiwi world. This is a day in the life of Paris Georgia…
Paris: “My dog Bon Bon lapping up the sunshine. She’s an English Bull Terrier.”
Georgia: “My favourite lunch -salmon on seeded rye.”
Morning
What time do you wake up and where?
Paris: 6:30am Grey Lynn in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.
Georgia: My boyfriend is up first and he makes me coffee in bed, which is the only thing that gets me up in the morning. I love to hit the snooze button.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Paris: Our alarm is now a six month old baby, so tending to her and our dog Bon Bon is the first ritual of the morning.
Georgia: My morning goes either two ways, I start slowly and eventually get up for a walk and swim, or I'm straight out of bed after my coffee for a 7am Pilates class.
Where are you usually based?
Paris: I’ve been working at home a lot more than usual as my daughter is only six months old. There’s a beautiful calm energy that comes with bringing a baby into the world, our home has been so peaceful (in between the sleepless nights!)
Georgia: Currently - Auckland, New Zealand although I'm moving to London very soon to set up the Paris Georgia studio there.
What does your average day look like?
Paris: Usually I go for a walk to Annabel’s for a coffee and my favourite beetroot gravlax on toast, or I do Pilates. Then head to our studio. Heading to a wine bar after work is always nice later on in the week.
Georgia: Morning exercise (on a good day) then I head to our studio to work with our amazing team. We often have fittings, where Paris and I will try on the pieces and develop the designs. We like to see our clothing on a range of bodies.
Do you have any rituals?
Paris: Coffee in bed. We live right next door to the Grey Lynn park so we often meet friends there or just walk our dog.
Where is your studio located and how do you get there?
Paris: I mix it up between driving and walking. We’re located in in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. We recently moved in and renovated.
“Our Paris Georgia Studio.”
Paris: “Georgia & I with my daughter at our studio, she’s been coming in a lot recently!”
Paris: “Our coffee table at home always has a circulating selection of books and magazines.”
Daytime
How would you describe what you do?
Georgia: Work with my best friend to create clothing for women we admire.
How has your background influenced who you are today?
Georgia: I came from very hard working parents who always supported my dreams. My dad started buying me fashion books when I was 10 years old.
How did you get your start in fashion?
Georgia: I moved to Barcelona when I was 19 to study fashion and met the most amazing people. It opened my world beyond New Zealand and made me realise that I wanted to create something that would always keep me connected to the people I met there.
What was the impetus behind starting your label?
Georgia: Our friendship. We’ve basically grown up together. We’ve been friends since we were 13, and always dreamed of starting a label together.
How do you get into a creative headspace?
Paris: After each collection and lookbook is finished, we try to head away to a remote beach – Whau Whau in the Coromandel and the most beautiful still lake, or Lake Rotoiti, both in New Zealand. I think it’s so important to step back and take a break. It gets me so excited about designing again.
Whilst working, where do you go and what do you do to take a break?
Paris: Flicking through magazines and books is a nice way to wind down.
Do you have a favourite piece from your new collection?
Paris: I love the Forest Crepe suiting story.
Paris: “The remnants on my plate after a meal at La Marina in Ponza.”
Paris: “On holiday this summer at Whau Whau beach in the Coromandel, Aotearoa.”
Evening
What’s on your bookshelf right now?
Paris: Artworks by Henry Taylor.
Georgia: Three Women by Lisa Taddeo.
What do you usually do for dinner?
Paris: I get so spoiled by my husband at dinner time. He’s the family chef.
Georgia: It’s summer so we’re cooking lots of fish.
What time do you go to bed?
Paris: As early as I can, around 9pm. I’m still breastfeeding so it means early bedtimes and lots of wake ups throughout the night.
Georgia: Depends on the season. Winter I’m in bed by 9pm, whereas in summer I like to stay out late and be in the sunshine or see friends.
Last thing you do before you sleep?
Paris: My skincare regime and read on my kindle.
Georgia: Hot shower, skincare routine, get cosy and watch a series.
What do you dream about?
Paris: Travel restrictions to and from New Zealand are tight right now so lots of travel dreaming… first stop, Ponza in Italy! I can’t wait to taste the food at La Marina again.
Georgia: Currently dreaming about this Charlotte Perriand chair.
