The AW22 Trend Report
From floor-skimming hemlines to luxe leather and of course, the ubiquitous hue, pink, discover AW22's most covetable trends and how to wear them now.
Think Pink
Magenta, raspberry, fierce fuchsia, pretty pastels, dusty-rose, blush... pink was splashed all over the Autumn/Winter runways, and where the likes of Valentino and Versace lead, we like to follow. Anything goes when it comes to this shade so if you're feeling brave, wear it from top to bottom. For colour-phobes, or those who prefer to live their life in grayscale, take note: a standout shoe is the most accessible way to dip your toe into the world of this mood-boosting hue, an easy way to make a statement without being too shouty about it. See MACH & MACH and Amina Muaddi for details.
Rebel, Rebel
Rip up the fashion rulebook, it's time to celebrate the rebels glorious return to the runway c/o Jean Paul Gaultier, Y/Project and Alexander McQueen to name a few. Yes, you'll find ripped tights, stomping boots, provocative prints and of course, plenty of plaid and denim, but don't take it too literally: playing the sartorial renegade is more about throwing caution to the wind and wearing things your way this season.
Great Lengths
Demure yet daring, pretty with a touch of tough, sexy but chic: floor skimming hemlines swept the runway in many guises for Fall. Think diaphanous skirts under belted leather at Saint Laurent, fearless cut-out dresses at MAXIMILIAN, dramatic jumpsuits at Balenciaga and all-out glam coats at Balmain.
Shimmer & Sheer
Sensual, lust-worthy fabrics in alluring hues – the new way to dress after dark is chic, modern and undeniably sexy. From sheer chiffon slips at Fendi and peek-a-boo lace bodysuits at Dion Lee, to tulle dresses dripping in sequins at Bottega Veneta and rhinestone embellished tops at Blumarine, this is the season of sensuality. Look out for Nensi Dojaka's lacquered sheen, thigh-split maxi, it's a sure-to-sell-out piece.
Leather Lover
Go hell for leather this season and tick off three trends in one piece with Prada's pink, sharp-shouldered trench. Channel a more laidback luxe mood with 16Arlington's dungarees or embrace a cinched waist and higher hemline (and a whole lot of attitude) with KHAITE's biker dress. Wish lists at the ready, these directional pieces will ensure you’re ahead of the fashion curve now and next season.
Knit Wits
A perennial closet go-to, the humble knit gathers new momentum for fall. From coats to cardigans, two pieces to twin sets, anything goes so long as it’s knitted. At Marine Serre, contrasting patterns and spliced lines add a modern edge to form-fitting dresses, while Stine Goya opts for colourfully-carefree hues on mix-and-mismatch separates and Chloé keeps it classic with pieces that promise maximum style mileage.
